The Highland Paranormal Society (2019)

Nate Treme makes small TTRPG zines and I adore them. Every single one of them.

The first one I saw was Temple of the Bat Serpent, which Exalted Funeral hipped me to (some of Nate’s stuff turns up in professionally printed form at Exalted, so that is an option, though they seem to sell out rather fast). It is a dungeon laid out on a single sheet of paper, folded in thirds. Something about the cover design just spoke to me, so I joined his Patreon – the Highland Paranormal Society – and have been getting similar little dungeons and adventures in the mail every month or so since. I got a membership card and everything.

Take a look at the covers for The Lost Isle, The Moldy Unicorn and The Eternal Caverns of Urk. They have such a delicious vibe to me, a little bit of the old school forbidden thing, a little bit of psychedelia, a whole lot of quirk. I see them and I wanna pick them up and flip through them again. Proof that good visual design is priceless. I wanna see them stacked under the notice board at the local grocery instead of Chick Tracts, you know?

All of Nate’s stuff is small and modular and handy to have around to stick into an ongoing game. Most of them marry cuteness with a distinct sense of menace. Your players will likely have a good laugh as they’re suffering horrible fates. Good stuff. Give him a follow!
