Remember the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game from Iron Crown Enterprises? I bet you don’t! This week on the Vintage RPG Podcast, we take a look at the short lived gateway game for Iron Crown’s Middle Earth Role Playing. Published from 1991 to 1993, it is an odd little game that perhaps has more in common with pick-your-path gamebooks than it does a tabletop RPG of the period. At the very least, it has some sick cover art by Angus McBride.

I think I was 11-12 when I started playing MERP . If I remember correctly our relationship to rules back then was we just used as much we understood and ignored what we didn’t.
Yea, this was my experience with MERP too, and probably more games than I care to admit, both then and now…
Hi! My name is Renato, I’m Brazilian and I was 9 when saw this image of a “girl fighting an invisible knight to protect children” with three capital letters “RPG” in the back cover of a magazine and then I became crazy to learn more about that (LotR just become popular here 4-5 years later in the early 2000’s with the movies), then I found a Brazilian magazine called “Dragão Brasil” (It’s like our version of the Dragon Magazine) and in it’s pages eventually I had learned about MERP and AD&D.
Unfortunately I never played MERP (never find a group) , when LotR became a thing here every one starts to play “Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game” (the one with the Movie Sauron Ring in the cover).

If you want a lite system, MEAP works perfectly well with all the other MERP stuff and they dual-stated their products from that point on.
I mean MEAG – Middle Earth Adventure Game.
